The days prior to the long awaited race day take much preparation! We all know the basic things that we’ve researched, done from experience or heard from fellow runners like what to eat and how to train. But here a few things we often forget about that can make or break your run!
The Night Prior:
A good night’s rest is a given, but I have always tossed and turned the night before any race! I wake up, jump out of bed to put one last thing in my race day bag, think about my running playlist… its natural. The morning will smooth itself out, so relax, clear your mind and picture yourself crossing the finish line.
The Race Day Bag:
We often think about what we will need before the run, but what about after? A bag with a fresh, clean set of clothes, a pair of shoes, extra water will help you to feel more comfortable after your accomplishment. After all, nobody wants to (or smell you) scarf down pizza after a marathon in soaked sweaty gym shorts!
This is a big one, especially if you are traveling out of town to the race. Most race organizers will provide the runners with a map or location for parking. This can help you save time tremendously.
Andrew and I have been eagerly preparing for the 2015 Nashville Marathon this Saturday! It should be quite a memorable day running his first marathon. Complimentary tee shirts, medals, collectors cups and a block party at the Hard Rock Cafe will be awaiting runners at the finish line.
AND ITS NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER!!! 🙂
